Skin Checks

It’s never too late, or too early to start preventing skin cancer.

A Corporate Health Management service.

What is a Skin Check?

The sun’s UV radiation can cause skin cancer including melanoma that can spread to vital organs. Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world.

The importance of early detection and regular skin self-examination is generally well understood within the working population. What is less understood is where to go for a skin check, when to have a skin check and how to proceed if an area of concern is found. This is where CHM can help.

A ‘skin check’ is a comprehensive assessment and examination of an asymptomatic person for any evidence of skin cancer. CHM partners with MoleMap to conduct onsite skin checks or an alternative voucher program, working with your organisation’s needs to choose what will work best for you and your employees.

Each screening is designed to be educational, discussing preventative measures for ultimate skin protection. Your results are completely confidential.

What happens in a Skin Check?

Each examination will take approximately 20 minutes, from start to finish, including undressing and re-dressing. You will be given privacy to undress, put on a disposable gown and leave your underwear on.

At your appointment you’ll be seen by a melanographer who’ll take the time to thoroughly check your skin from head-to-toe. They’ll help you feel at ease throughout the whole process.

On completion of a thorough and comprehensive examination of the skin, a trained melanographer will advise of any abnormal skin lesions. Professional advice and recommendations will be provided and if further treatment is needed, you’ll be referred to your GP or a skin specialist.

Once the skin cancer screening has been completed, our specialist will discuss any findings with the employee. If it is a minor matter, then the specialist will advise the employee how to treat or manage that skin condition. If further treatment is required, the employee will be given a referral, which they may take to see their own doctor.

Each client will be given a body map showing areas of their skin to be monitored. They will also be offered education handouts on self-monitoring skin (i.e. what to look for) as well as preventative measures for ultimate skin care and protection.

All results are confidential. No results will be shared with the organisation’s management.
